langkawi vacation

Dear Lyana, Aneesa and Haryz,

For your remembrance, Abah is blogging our long awaited family vacation to Langkawi. We went there for 3 days from 15 - 17 April 09. Since it was a weekday for Lyana, we had to write a letter to your school asking permission to take you on this trip.

The last Abah & Mama came to Langkawi was in 2003, during our honeymoon. Six years later, we came back to Langkawi with 3 children. :)

Below are pictures of our vacation...

You were very excited and fascinated with the idea of flying. Lyana especially queried how something so big could fly. (This picture is free marketing for AirAsia, Mr. Tony Fernandez - ps... flights were not as cheap as we had expected).

In-flight. All of you were darlings and didn't cry when we left KL (but Aneesa cried in the plane when we left Langkawi). Haryz didn't cry both ways and Lyana was being a very good girl with her coloring book.

We stayed in Meritus Pelangi Beach Resort in Pantai Chenang. Thanks to recommendation by Aunty Shariza (Jiji). The red car behind was rented to ease our movements around Langkawi.
We hit the beach as soon as we arrived that afternoon. You all loved the sand and sea very much.

Abah getting 'bullied' by all of you clambering and climbing over me.
We were especially proud of Haryz who was very brave and walked straight into the waves by himself unattended (who eventually drank lots of sea water). Haryz, fyi, you ate lots of sand and also seashells (which we manage to pry out of your mouth before you swallowed any).

We also hit the pools... Haryz as usual tasting everything and followed by Aneesa.

The next day we went to see some animals...

... and went onto the cable car.
Aneesa, you were somewhat terrified riding the cable car and held on to the chairs very tightly.
Family picture at the top.

Highest point on the mountain.

After the cable car ride, we went to the Underwater World.
Aneesa who was sleeping in the car after the cable car ride, jumped and ran around in excitement looking at aquariums after aquariums when you were in there - both you and Lyana really enjoyed this place.

This is a sea dragon - Abah's favourite sea animal. They are very beautiful and graceful - Subhanallah.

Admiring the fishes.

This is one intrigiung animal - a cross between fish and crocodile.

That night we had tasty dinner in this restaurant in Pekan Kuah (or is it Bandar now?). Food was served quick and the price was reasonable too. Did I mention it was tasty too? ;) [Free promotion for Jai Island Cafe].

This was our chalet, which is a wooden kampung-styled house. Our room number was 3904 and since it was quite a distance to walk to the car park, we usually rode the hotel buggy to move around. You kids enjoyed those rides. :)

This was how it looked on both nights, where you were all knackered after the day.

This is a picture of the swimming pool - Abah just had to snap this picture since its very nice.
Overall, it was a lovely vacation and we all enjoyed ourselves very much. Next time, Abah will take us to another place which is by the beach too, okay? I know all of you love the sea.

BHP 11km orange run

I didn't get to participate in last year's Orange Run, (can't remember why) so this year is my first. For Halim and Ruslan, this is their second, so they knew the route already. Halim almost missed this run because he didn't have a car to use - wife and children were using them. Not wanting him to miss out, I decided to fetch him at his house in Sungai Buloh.

We also managed to coax Azman to join us for his first ever 11km run - good for you, Azman! I'm sure you burned tons of fat. :)

This time, we decided take it easy and run as a team to motivate Azman (and Ruslan) to last the whole race running instead of walking: Azman lasted for 2.1km non-stop running while Ruslan lasted 6.2km non-stop running - he said this is his personal record. Wohoo! Tahniah to both of you!

Team HR Talisman - thanks for the picture Tey.
Running together. Excellent pictures, Wan Edrin.
Jubilant. Again, thanks to Wan Edrin.

Just before the start of the race, a Malay Mail journalist interviewed us about this run - too bad we didn't have much time otherwise we might have our stories in the papers. hehehe... perasan.

The journo with us.

Anyway, here's my stats...
Time = 1h:38m
Distance = 11.65km
Average HR = 184bpm
Peak HR = 199bpm
Energy = 2083 kcal
Average Speed = 7.1km/h
Max Speed = 8.9km/h

End pic with the usual faces plus Maran (my uni-mate) in white singlet and Azman's ex-boss (lady - dunno name).

(ps - sorry Maran, I can only remember your nickname, forgot your full name la)

training for 2009 KLIM and PD triathlon

This year I am planning to participate in these 2 major events (major for me, at least) where I've registered for the 21km in Kuala Lumpur International Marathon and will be participating again in the Port Dickson triathlon this year.

This will be my first ever 21km run, apart from the GE 20km run that I participated earlier this year. I hope to be more prepared this time.

For the triathlon, I've started training for the swim and cycle leg but it sure is tough for me, since I've been 'bathing' more than swimming when I bring the kids to the pool.

Here's some of my training so far....

21 Mar: 7.29km run; 1h:19m; E = 1443 kcal.

22 Mar: 6km cycle (0h:20m)+ 800m swim (0h:29m) + 7km cycle (0h:20m); E = 751 kcal.

24 Mar: 4.71km run; 0h:38m; E = 566 kcal.

29 Mar: Melawati 11km run; 1h:21m; E = 1738 kcal.

1 Apr: 4.83km; 0h:40m; E = 669 kcal.

2 Apr: 8.19km; 1h:41m; E = 1193 kcal.

5 Apr: 10.27km; 1h:39m; E = 1645 kcal.

I'm hoping to reach a good fitness level for KLIM and not 'die' like the GE run. :p

While training in Shah Alam.
